What Is the Process of Switching to a Ductless Mini Split?

When it’s time to replace your older air conditioner with a new model, a ductless mini split is a great choice to consider. It offers a variety of unique benefits that a central air conditioner does not have. But since the two systems are so different, you may be wondering what all it takes to make the switch.

Just give us a call for your ductless AC in North Wales, PA. Our team can visit your home to complete an assessment and walk you through the steps that it takes to switch from a central air conditioner to a ductless unit. In the meantime, you can keep reading to get a high-level overview of what happens during the switch between a central AC in a ductless unit.

Planning the Setup

Our first step is to create a game plan for how your ductless system will be set up inside of your home. Each room or zone of your home will have an individual ductless unit attached along the ceiling. If rooms are closed off, they get their own unit.

However, if you have two rooms connected together like a kitchen and dining room, those rooms may share a unit. We can talk to you about placement in each room and how you can use the unit separately to maintain different temperatures or together to maintain a single consistent temperature across your entire home.

Removing Your Old Unit

When we arrive on the day of installation, we will remove everything related to your older HVAC system. Since we do not need attached ductwork, we will remove that as well. Your ductless mini split will not need a large central indoor unit, so you can save some space by eliminating that and using the closet for additional storage.

You will still need a central outdoor unit, so while we will remove your older unit, we will leave the foundation in place for the new central unit attached to your ductless mini split. After that, we can assess all of the existing connections that lead to your central outdoor unit to see what we can reuse for your ductless model. If needed, we can upgrade older connections to newer versions and materials.

Installation and Instruction

After that, it’s time for installation! Refrigerant lines will run from each of your ductless mini split units out to the central outdoor unit. Once everything is installed, we will complete testing to make sure that your ductless mini split system is working the way it should.

Then we can give you instructions for operating the system as a whole and also maintenance tips for caring for it. Keep in mind that taking excellent care of your mini split unit from day one will help it to enjoy a longer lifespan with greater energy efficiency.
