Our Emergency Plumbing Checklist

Some homeowners think that plumbing and emergency plumbing are basically the same things. We understand why, most people don’t even think about their plumbing systems unless it’s an emergency. Drain clogs and water leaks can be a big deal, especially if you’ve got a large family or you host people at your house often. We’re not here to tell you what’s an emergency plumbing situation and what’s not, we’re just here to help!

In order to be your most reliable plumber in Bucks County, we need to make sure we’re all on the same page. If you’re ever dealing with a plumbing problem, from a leak to just a dirty drain, then you can always call our number. Not only do we have plumbers on standby that are ready to help you, but we also can provide you with some advice and we’ll even walk you through some helpful steps if you’re stressed out.

Shut the Water Off

First of all, let’s do the most important step first when it comes to a plumbing leak in your home. Every drop of water that leaks from the hole in your pipe is going to come right out of your budget if it’s not stopped from the source. We recommend heading to the main water shut off valve to stop the water from entering your home entirely. Once your home doesn’t have access to water, it becomes a lot easier to evaluate the damage and stop things from getting worse.

Make sure you communicate clearly to your family and guests that the water is being shut off, so they’re not surprised when they try to use the bathroom or take a shower. Then, you can proceed to deal with the leak at hand without worrying about continued water waste.

Mop Up any Remaining Water

Take out all the cleaning and drying supplies, it’s time to get to work! Any water that’s spilling into your home from a pipe is going to cause damage, either now or later, unless it’s cleaned up properly. Use towels to mop up excessive amounts of water, or purchase some paper towels to help with the soaking and mopping up of water.

Remember that prolonged exposure to moisture in a damp or dark environment will lead to mold growth and deterioration.

Utilize Buckets or Bowls

We also recommend that homeowners use buckets and bowls to keep water from dripping onto carpets, wood, or other materials that could grow mold in the future.

Work Closely With a Pro

If a pro is on the way, you can help by cleaning up the area around the leak and making sure it’s easy to access. Then, once you’ve got the attention of a professional plumber, we advise you to work closely with them. Ask them questions you might have about the state of your plumbing system, or whether they think any other adjustments are going to be needed in the future. A professional plumber that’s dedicated to your home and comfort can be a valuable resource when you’re addressing an emergency plumbing problem.
